Physical Variations is a collection of immersive creations inspired by the wonders of scientific research, produced between 2018 and 2020. Through a process of sensitively projecting realities using shapes and colors, Alex Andrix conceives and stages geometric particles in both two-dimensional and three-dimensional space, subjecting them to force field equations to guide their movement. Working in close connection with scientific research, the artist builds or deepens his personal relationship with a subject—whether a major law of physics, a research topic, or a discovery—to develop a sensitive, incomplete, and subjective vision through travel, reading publications, and personal encounters. This artistic impulse, a hybrid fruit of influences from a nomadic lifestyle and impromptu moments of insight, is then projected onto a canvas or into a virtual world. Through script-based programming in 2D and the animation of objects in 3D, Alex brings his creations to life, sharing them with the public as printed canvases, in virtual reality, and more recently, under planetarium domes.
