At the beginning of 2016, the artist launched an ambitious project: to collect, clean, and digitize every piece of packaging generated by their family over the course of an entire year. This meticulous work serves as the raw material for a 12-minute experimental animated film in which each digitized package appears briefly on screen, creating a visual accumulation that is as hypnotic as it is unsettling. Battlefield Maps offers a striking testament to the culture of plastic and disposability that defines our era, questioning our relationship with consumption and the environment. Through this artistic and critical approach, the work reveals the scale of our ecological footprint and invites us to reflect on the necessity of radical change.
A self-taught artist who has been immersed in art his entire life thanks to his sculptor father, Florian Schönerstedt constantly seeks to measure the subtle changes that a simple artistic gesture can have on his daily life. Through constraint and the simple act of "seeing what happens," Florian Schönerstedt experiments with the small differences found in repetition. Same but different, creation ultimately lies in the gap and the metamorphosis.
