Legible Journey, by Colectivo Línea 60, reinterprets Legible City (Jeffrey Shaw, 1988) as an immersive experience where language, movement, and territory intertwine. Mounted on a stationary bicycle facing an architecture of 3D-printed letters, the viewer triggers a sound composition through their pedaling, drawn from 270 audio fragments captured daily over nine months during a journey between La Rochelle and Athens.
The work demands a dual commitment: physical, to maintain the pace that releases the narratives; and mental, to resist the acceleration of contemporary life. The bicycle becomes a machine for exploring time—when movement stops, the narration is suspended.
Designed for public space, the installation frees digital art from its screens. The real landscape engages in a dialogue with the soundscapes, offering a sensory understanding that transcends the verbal. Legible Journey poses an essential question: how do we perceive the world when we break free from the structures of language? The answer emerges in the persistence of the cyclical gesture, in this alchemy between physical effort and acoustic memory.
